Born in Northern California, Michael White is a mixed-media artist currently living in Eugene, Oregon. He graduated from the Oregon College of Art & Craft in 2011 with a BFA in Craft and, in addition to his studio practice, has worked as an assistant preparator for the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and the City of Eugene.
His pieces have been shown in various contemporary galleries, including Berry Campbell Gallery, Maude Kerns Art Center, Oregon Center for Contemporary Art (Disjecta), Blackfish Gallery, The Hoffman Gallery, Arc Gallery in San Francisco, and The Red Museum in Sacramento. He was featured as the cover artist of "Etymology of a Dream: Art, Writing & Beyond" in 2017 and can be found in published independent magazines such as "Unvarnished Magazine: Liberation, Volume 2." His work has also been featured on prominent art blogs and social media platforms, including New American Paintings.
White’s practice explores the boundaries of the cyanotype medium, weaving together themes of memory, grief, identity, and the human psyche. His work often integrates cyanotypes, graphite, and found photography, resulting in many layered compositions.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, White draws inspiration from the region’s quiet, melancholic landscapes which echo the ethereal qualities he strives to capture in his work. His ultimate goal is to create art that challenges perception, evokes reflection, and forges a connection to both the seen and unseen aspects of the human experience.
